Grants for Women: Four types of Financial Support for Women

A lot of women around the world tend to give up their chance for a higher education or a degree for
marriage and child rearing. However, once their kids start going to school, most find themselves with
a lot of time on their hands and some are even in need of extra income for emergency situations. But
because education has a very expensive price tag, these women unfortunately are not able to return to
school. This is where the different grants for women come in very useful.

Most often than not, a lot of women have the wrong perception that grants are only made available
to certain age levels, or only to high school or college students. This is actually false. There are many
grants that are provided by the federal government, organizations, and private companies which cater
to women regardless of age. These financial aid programs aim to provide opportunities for women
and encourage women to go back to school, get a higher education, obtain a degree, or to start their
business in order for them to gain extra profit for emergency situations.

Different Types of Grants for Women

Grants for women are not only limited to school grants, there are other types of grants that offer
money to single parents, women without homes, abused, and battered women. Probably the best
thing about these financial aid programs is that they do not need to be repaid provided that the person
who applied for it will use it properly, wisely, and in accordance to the standards and purpose that the
grant was intended for.

Grants differ depending on their type, purpose, and the amount of money that is provided to qualifiers.
However, since these financial support programs are not required to be repaid, women who are
interested in applying for them should understand that there are limitations, rules, and regulations
before they can qualify for any type of grants. There are four main types of grants for women, namely;
federal, professional, corporate, and private.

Federal Grants

Regardless of what country a woman lives in, there are several federal grants for women that are
offered to them. The grant money that is provided by federal grants can be used in different ways.
These include funding for undergraduate schooling, graduate schooling, and even for those who seek
on having a professional career. These financial aid support programs are available for women who
would like to return to school and obtain the education they never had.

There are also some agencies under the federal government or a state that offer grant money to
different organizations which aim to support civic purposes, such as the social improvement for the
overall status of women in the business field, arts, and science and technology field. All types of
federal grants for women require application along with a description of the goal that they would
want to reach; a commitment stating that the grant money will only be used for its original and
intended purpose and for the provision of miscellaneous educational requirements such as forms and
documentation in order for a woman to qualify.

Aside from the United States, government agencies located in other countries offer grants to the
female population in their territory as well. Some of these countries include South Africa, Australia,
United Kingdom, and Canada. The government agencies which help protect the rights and empower
women include the Department of Education, the Department of Social Services, the Department of
Agriculture, the Small Business Administration, and the Department of Health. There are also public
service organizations like the Medicare Payment Advisory that offers grants for women.

Professional Grants

Professional grants are usually offered by universities as well as non-profit organizations. These grants
help women to achieve a higher status in their chosen profession and ultimately reach their desired
professional status in the long run. There are many professional organizations for women which offer
grants for career development and advancement in education. There are also grants for women that
can be used for travelling purposes under the terms of the education or counseling purposes.

Foundation, the Amber Grants for Women Business Owners, the Go Girl Go! Ambassador Team
Awards, and the Avon Foundation. The grants that these organizations offer differ in their qualification
requirements and the purposes which the grants can be used for.

Corporate Grants

Corporate grants for women are administered and developed by certain private companies that want
to provide funding for grant programs. These grants are also designed to improve their reputations
as civic and socially responsible businesses, thus increasing their company’s publicity and marketing
potential. There are a lot of organizations and companies that have backgrounds of offering grant
money for women in order for them to return to school, obtain a higher level of education and
professional advancement in their career. The most popular corporate grants are being provided by the
Kellogs Company, Verizon, Sony, Boeing, General Electric, and Microsoft.
